Aburaso, (Ashanti), Oct. 28, GNA- The Aburaso, a community along the Bechem-Kumasi highway turned into a state of grief, when a heavy-duty truck loaded with lumber lost control and killed a pupil Tuesday afternoon October 28.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that the deceased, yet to be identified, was returning home from school with two school children, said to be in a critical condition, when the incident happened around 1400 hours.
Mr Evans Owusu, a resident and eyewitness, told the GNA in a telephone interview that the driver of the truck with registration GE 9901-11 lost control and in the process the lumber fell from the bucket of the truck and trapped the children.
He said some young men in the area mobilised themselves and rescued the victims only to find out that one of them had passed on, adding that the two surviving victims were rushed to a hospital in the area.
As at the time of filing the report, Mr Owusu said the truck had blocked the Aburaso portion of the highway, causing heavy vehicular traffic as vehicles coming from the opposite directions were unable to move.
He said several passengers had been stranded, adding that the driver of the truck and the driver’s mate escaped unhurt and fled for their lives.
