Takoradi, Oct. 28, GNA – Ghanaian Electronics importers have been advised to liase with the Energy Commission, to ensure the procurement of the right products that meet the approved standards.
They are also to become aware of the various Ghana IEC/ISO standards to promote compliance and avoid any conflict with the law.
Mr Hubert Nsoh Zan, the Assistant Manager, Energy Efficiency Regulations at the Energy Commission, gave the advice in a media interview at a day’s workshop in Takoradi.
He said, “Unfortunately, it is the foreigners who come to our offices to enquire about what the country’s directive on these appliances are: but the Ghanaian importer will only call you when the manufacturer directs him or her to do so, which should not be the case.”
He stated that Ghana’s current energy mix stood at 28 per cent for hydro, 70 per cent thermal and two per cent renewable, which demanded a more efficient use of power to reduce cost, environmental safety and ensure sustainability.
The Commission thus recommended that prudent measures were put in place by households, industries, and institutions to save cost.
Mr Richard Donkor, also from the Commission, urged the media to amplify issues on Energy efficiency and conservation using the right technologies, to ensure that the Ghanaian adopted energy efficient behaviours, technologies and practices that saved cost and protected the environment.
