Sunyani, (Bono), Oct. 24, GNA-The Bono Regional Police Command has engaged faith-based organisations at Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region with a call on them to support in sustaining peace and stability in the area.
The Sampa Township has been experiencing recurring violent clashes from a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the two traditional feuding factions.
However, a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police administration reminded the people that it was unlawful for anybody to possess firearms and weapons, urging families to advise their children in that regard.
A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, said the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Andrews George Kumah, the Deputy Bono Regional Commander of the Police led the engagement and urged the people to support peace initiatives.
It warned that anyone found with firearms would be prosecuted accordingly and urged the people against acts of lawlessness for educational institutions, financial establishments as well as buying and selling to thrive.
The statement also urged the people to remain watchful and endeavour to share credible information with the Police in their efforts to maintain law and order in the town and protect lives and properties.
It called on the public to disregard unverified social media reports on the chieftaincy dispute that could inflame passions and trigger violence.
The faith-based organisation thanked the Police for the engagement and pledged to support their efforts to restore community harmony.
