Winneba (C/R), Sept. 21, GNA – A group of young alumni of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have established the Elizabeth Girlchild Education Foundation (EGEF), to promote the education of marginalized girls in Effutu and beyond.
Founded in 2019 and based at Descardo Down in Winneba, the Foundation was inspired by the desire of the former students to give back to society.
It sought to provide academic and material support to underprivileged girls, particularly in the Central and Northern regions, while encouraging them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The foundation’s support includes the payment of school fees, provision of uniforms, books, bags, transportation, feeding fees, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) dues, printing costs, and sanitary pads.
These interventions, according to the foundation, have kept many girls in school and renewed their hopes of pursuing careers once considered beyond their reach.
Mr Seth Addo, the organizer of the Foundation, said the initiative had already benefited several girls but was being hampered by financial challenges.
“We are passionate about helping these girls, but financial constraints make it difficult to sustain the support,” he noted.
Mr Addo appealed to corporate bodies, philanthropic institutions, and benevolent individuals to partner with the Foundation to expand its reach and impact.
Since its inception, the Elizabeth Girlchild Education Foundation has offered relief to many families, demonstrating that with collective effort, more girls could access and complete their education.
