Wangarakrom (W/R), September 9, GNA-Mr. Benjamin Teye Aborbi, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Director of National Youth Authority (NYA), has tasked the Wangarakrom Youth Association to serve as role models for others.

He said their actions would help build confidence among the youth in Wangarakrom and motivate them to strive for excellence.

He gave the advice at the inauguration of the Wangarakrom Youth Association and swearing into office the executives, who would steer the affairs of the group for a year.

Mr. Aborbi cautioned the leadership to stick to their objectives and not involve themselves in politics.

He said: “Sometimes when groups of these kinds are formed, they undermine their traditional leaders and prioritize self-interest over community norms.

“Do not engage in such acts, use the group to maintain peace, unity, and push for development.

“I am told the association will soon have a programme on teenage pregnancy and drug abuse. It’s a good start, keep it up. This is what the government is expecting from you.”

He further advised the new executives to refrain from using their positions to intimidate their members, stressing that they should always seek inputs from the youth and incorporate their views to drive the progress of the community.

The Director appealed to them to pay their dues and all approved fees promptly to support the operation of the association.

He expressed gratitude to their traditional leaders for supporting the youth and called on them to keep nurturing the youth to become responsible future leaders.

Mr. Benard Obbin, Assembly Member of Teberebie Electoral Area, thanked the Municipal Youth Director for supporting to set up the group.

He urged the members to accept programmes initiated by their executives.

He pointed out that through skills training members within the association would be better positioned to become self-employed and economically independent.

Mr. Isaac Mensah, General Secretary of the association, on behalf of his colleagues, assured the community that they would work closely with the traditional leaders, Assembly Member and the unit committees to advocate more developmental projects for the residents of Wangarakrom.

“To inspire our Junior High School students to concentrate more on their studies, beginning from this year, all students who attain aggregate six to 20 at the Basic Education Certificate Examination, the association will provide each person provisions and GH¢500 as pocket money when they are going to school,” he revealed.

Mr. Mensah added: “We will again ensure that our clinic is always clean and work on our sanitation system because few years ago, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation adjudged Wangarakrom as one of the cleanest communities. We want to maintain that enviable record”.
