Twifo Hemang (C/R), Sept 03, GNA- Mr Isaac Agyiri, Executive Director of Showbouy Fun Club, an agricultural and entrepreneurship organisation, has constituted a 15-student body in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower- Denkyira (THLD) District to motivate students to develop interests in agriculture.
The group selected from Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School (HEMSTECH), included five females.
According to Mr Agyiri, the rational was to inculcate into students the interest in agriculture to help boost the sector in the district and beyond.
He urged educational institutions to venture into agriculture production to foster a culture of farming among students, spurring them into agriculture entrepreneurship to contribute to national food sufficiency and economic growth.
Mr Agyiri said, together with students from HEMSTECH, a 10 acres of school lands was cultivated to plant and harvest maize to feed the students.
Currently, he said the club had nursed 50,000 seedlings of cabbage, cucumber, green pepper, spring onions, lettuce and many more to be handed over to the Education Directorate to be distributed to about 50 schools.
He also commended the government for the creation of the Feed Ghana initiative designed to engage young people in agriculture to support national food supply system.
In response, the student-body promised to help boost agriculture among students in the district as school farms would serve as a demonstration model for schools.
