Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 02, GNA -The Leukemia Project Foundation (LPF), a non-profit organisation, has reaffirmed its mission to eliminate preventable deaths from Leukemia and related blood disorders through accessible healthcare, education, and research.
Since its establishment in 2006, the LPF had been at the forefront of advocacy, patient support, and healthcare development for Leukemia and related blood conditions in Ghana.
Currently, in collaboration with the LPF, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is spearheading the construction of Ghana’s first Centre for Hematology and Clinical Genetics, which would provide advanced treatment options, diagnostic services, and training opportunities for medical professionals.
Joining the global community in commemorating Leukemia Month this September, the Foundation has issued a press statement signed by Mr Gerard Hillary Osei Boakye, the President of LPF, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
He said Leukemia Month served as reminder of the urgent need for improved healthcare access for blood disorder patients in Ghana, adding that “with the continued support of our partners and sponsors, we are confident that this vision of a world-class treatment and research center at KBTH will become a reality, saving countless lives.”
The Statement explained that the Foundation’s mission thrived on the generosity and collaboration of dedicated individuals and institutions, expressed gratitude to its founding benefactors: Ecobank Ghana, Stanbic Bank, Kofi Ababio and Sons, Engineers and Planners, Rana Motors, Agriculture Development Bank, Vanguard Assurance, Caitec Motors, Chase Petroleum, Mrs Adu Wusu, Automotive Springs, and Allied Oil.
It further acknowledged the unweaving support from the Edward Osei Boakye Trust Fund and its Trustees, who currently host and manage the LPF, saying, their commitment had been vital in all administrative technical, and the architectural efforts toward establishing the Centre.
“As we prepare to break the ground for construction, we encourage more contributions, both in kind and cash, to help realise this vision,” the statement added
To raise awareness and funds for the Centre, the LPF announced its upcoming events, including the Captain’s Cup Polo Tournament scheduled for September 3rd to 7th, 2025, in collaboration with the Accra Polo Club and an Operatic and Choral Concert scheduled for November 2025, and called for more support as it embarked on this significant journey.
