Ave-Dakpa (VR), Sept 6, GNA-Management of the Akatsi North District Assembly, led by Mr Bless Kwadzo Katamani, its District Chief Executive, has commissioned eight boreholes in some communities across the district.
The initiative, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund—Responsive Factor Grant (DACF-RFG VII), also known as DPAT VII, deliberates on introducing a vulnerability window to provide targeted support to districts facing heightened development challenges.
Mr Katamani, during the commissioning tour, explained that the project aimed to improve the local water supply system as well as to provide safe drinking water, which remained a critical need in the district.
He said the project, which started under the previous government regime, would go a long way to add value to education and others “since most of our young ones had to travel long distances in search of water before going to school.”
Mr Katamani added that potable water was essential for reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases, including cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery.
He assured other communities of their share under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
He also encouraged community members to adopt robust maintenance practices to ensure the boreholes’ longevity and continued functionality.
Some traditional rulers and community leaders, who witnessed the short events, commended the DCE and his team for the important intervention.
They stated that the project would bring significant strides in addressing water access challenges in rural areas.
Mr Edem Kordzo Tekpli, assembly member for Ave- Dzalele Electoral Area on his part, appealed to his electorate and the constituted water management board to ensure proper usage of the facility.
He further indicated that over 11 out of 24 communities within his Electoral Area do not have access to electricity, and therefore appealed to the authorities to come to their aid.
The beneficiary communities are Yorkuvi, Ave-Dzalele, Ave-Dakpa, Ave-Xevi, Ave-Fiave, Metsrikasa, Hadave, and Avevoe.
