Tamale, Aug 22, GNA – The re-constituted Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) has been inaugurated to promote sustainable development of the area.

The council is chaired by Mr Ali Adolf John, the Northern Regional Minister, and it comprises two representatives of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, all 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and Presiding Members of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Mr Francis Ayamwuni Asobayire, Circuit Court Judge in Tamale, administered the official and secrecy oaths to members during the swearing-in ceremony in Tamale.

He reminded them of the legal consequences of breaching the oaths and urged them to remain faithful to the mandate entrusted to them.

The Regional Minister underscored the need for members to champion transparency and citizen-centered service delivery to bridge development gaps in their respective areas.

He cautioned against the misuse of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) emphasizing that the funds must be utilised strictly in line with the guidelines.

He said: “The release of funds should not in any way make MMDAs relent in their internal revenue mobilisation efforts. Any infractions in the use of the funds will attract sanctions.”

Mr John commended stakeholders including traditional authorities, government agencies and civil society organisations (CSOs) for their contributions to the region’s development and urged them to continue supporting government’s commitment to promoting sustainable growth.

Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, pledged their readiness to work together to address poverty and empower communities towards sustainable development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by heads of department and agencies, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders in the region.
