Accra, Aug 21, GNA- David Kwadwo Yeboah Darko-Mensah and Kofi Asamoah-Okyere of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon, delivered impressive performances in the Board One and Board Two categories at the 2025 World Schools Team Chess Championship.
Their impressive performances, fuelled by determination and hard work, showcased the depth of emerging talent in Ghana’s chess fraternity at the event held in Virginia, USA.
This year’s event brought together 55 teams from 48 countries for a celebration of skill, strategy, and scholastic sportsmanship.
Final-year student David Kwadwo Yeboah Darko-Mensah and Form Two student Kofi Asamoah-Okyere competed under the captaincy of Mr. Philip Ameku, President of the Ghana Chess Association.
The PRESEC representatives, though seen as underdogs, rose to the occasion with an impressive performance against some of the world’s top sides.
David began his journey with a quick run, scoring 5.5 points out of 7, while earning sixth place out of 55 in the highly competitive Board Two category.
Kofi, who had diligently prepared for the global event, carried Ghana’s charge by delivering a strong performance, scoring 4.5 points out of 7 to place 14th in the Board One category.
Although Ghana’s effort could not fetch a spot in the overall team standings, the brilliant display of the duo was evident of Ghana’s effort in unearthing young talents.
Mr. Philip Ameku, President, Ghana Chess Association showered praises on the boys for their sterling performance, whilst commending the school administration for promoting the game.
This milestone marks yet another chapter in PRESEC’s legacy of excellence both on and off the chessboard.
Velammal MHS School from Chennai, India were crowned overall champions of the 2025 World Schools Team Championship.
