Atebubu, (Bono East), Aug. 20, GNA – The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal branch of the Pensioners Association has commended the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for providing security and hope for pensioners nationwide.
Mr Samuel Kokro, the Vice Chairman of the branch, said pensioners now lived a more dignified life through the SSNIT’s sustainable monthly retirement benefit.
He gave the commendation when speaking at the monthly meetings of the branch held at Atebubu in the Bono East Region, which discussed pertinent issues regarding the progress and welfare of the association. Mr Kokro noted that: “Since the SSNIT scheme began payment of monthly pensions in the early nineties, pensioners have been paid their monthly deserving benefit.
In fact, SSNIT has never reneged on the payment to pensioners and we must appreciate and commend the Trust for that”. He said the Association was hopeful that the Trust would be protected so that the unborn generations can also benefit”.
Mr Ohene Gyan, the Patron of the Association, called on the government to institute an annual lecture on illegal mining to help intensify public education on the devastating impacts of the menace.
He said: “There is the need to sensitize and remind the citizenry on the implications of galamsey”, and called for a similar lecture in honour of the eight individuals who perished in the Wednesday August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash.
