Offinso North MCE urges churches to prioritize youth development

By Michael Duodu

Akumadan, (Ashanti), Aug. 18, GNA- Mr Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, the Offinso North Municipal Chief Executive has called on churches to prioritize the spiritual and physical development of the youthful population.

He expressed concern about the growing trend of youth substance abuse, saying it behooved on churches to help bring up young people responsively, saying younger people remained the hope of the church and the nation as a whole.

Mr Acheampong made the call when speaking at a ceremony for the elevation of the Preaching Post of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) at Canaan in the Municipality. The PCG elevated the Post into a congregation status of the church.

Mr Acheampong said the government required effective partnership with the church to tackle the nation’s emerging and pressing challenges, mentioning the surge in illicit substance abuse among the youth as a national concern.

He therefore urged the church to lead the campaign in the fight against youth substance abuse to create a better future for the younger generation.

The Reverend Samuel Owusu Fianko, the Akumadan District Minister of the PCG advised Ghanaians to fear God and abstain from evil and prioritise their spiritual development.

He explained that the Preaching Post started in 2017 with only three members meeting in a classroom and presently had 110 members congregating in their own church building.

A seven-member Presbytery, led by Senior Presbyter Mary Amankwah was later inducted into office to steer the affairs of the church.
