Berekum, (Bono), Aug 4, GNA – Elder Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Berekum East in the Bono Region, has appealed for support towards the establishment of a cancer treatment centre in the constituency.

The MP said he was collaborating with the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for the establishment of the centre, explaining that a structure had been acquired, undergoing renovation works to serve as the centre.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Berekum, Elder Kyeremeh appealed to philanthropists, corporate and religious bodies as well as wealthy citizens of Berekum, home abroad for support.

He noted that “cancer is one of the diseases that is fast-taking lives in our country,” hence the need for the centre to enhance early case detection and management.

Elder Kyeremeh emphasized that if detected early, cancer and related cases could be treated, saying the lack of a treatment centre was partly contributing to the rise in cases,

saying, “we need machines and equipment to screen suspected cases for confirmation and management.”
