Accra, Sept 22, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with his fellow world leaders, to secure commitments on trade, technology, and economic support on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Meeting in New York.
A statement issued by Ghana’s Presidency said President Mahama met with Mr António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, Kenyan President William Ruto, Jordanian King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, and among others.
The meeting with President Ruto focused on expanding bilateral trade, bolstering regional security, strengthening diplomatic ties, and unifying Africa’s voice on global platforms.
Relations between Ghana and Kenya are rooted in the early pan-African independence movements. President Ruto commended President Mahama for spearheading the #AccraReset agenda, acknowledging his efforts to rally global attention toward greater self-financing and financial independence for African nations.
The meeting with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan explored how to expand economic cooperation, foster bilateral growth, and explore new trade partnerships.
President Mahama outlined his administration’s strategies to revive the national economy despite inherited challenges during his meeting with Swiss President Guy Parmelin.
He called for a Swiss partnership to strengthen Ghana’s decentralisation framework and highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) as a key tool Ghana seeks to leverage from Switzerland to close domestic revenue mobilisation gaps.
President Mahama also met with Rebeca Grynspan, Costa Rica’s candidate for United Nations Secretary-General, and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health.
