Accra, August 31, GNA – Mr Abdalfatah Ahmed Khalil Alsattari, Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, has called on progressive nations and the superpowers to end the genocide being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip and put in place a two-State solution.
In the last two months, 320 Palestinians have died because they had no food and out of this 121 were babies. The Israeli government kills 28 children everyday, he said.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Ambassador, said, Israel had killed 62,966 since Palestinians who were civilians, women and children in Gaza and West Bank under the pretence of fighting Hamaz since October 7, 2023.
He said Israel’s incessant annihilation and bombardments in Gaza and Palestine with no regards to international laws and ceasefire appeals was an indication that Israel sees Palestinians as ‘animals’ and want to wipe them out.
“From October 7, 2023, Israel has killed 62,966 Palestinians, 25,000 children, 12,000 women. According to a UN report, 88 per cent of the people killed were civilians and 195,266 Palestinians had also been injured with some without hands, eyes and limbs.” Mr Alsattari, said.
He said more than 10,000 Palestinians had been trapped under buildings, a number of doctors, nurses and other paramedics and 247 journalists had also been killed.
The Ambassador said: “They are bombing schools, hospitals and houses and they say they are proud of doing it. In the last five months, the UN has said there is starvation in Gaza. Israel blocks food and medicine into Gaza for our people.”
“The food and medicine are at the borders and our people run to get them but are shot at. They see us as ‘animals’ and not humans. There are more than 6 million Palestinians who cannot come back to their homes,” he added.
Dr Wale Okediran, Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), described the aggression against Palestine as a ‘holocaust,’ adding that since the inception of the genocide, some writers and journalists had been victims.
“I want to repeat the solidarity of African Writers in the cause of the Palestinians. We stand with you in this very difficult period,” he said.
Mr Kwesi Pratt Jr, Managing Editor, Insight Newspaper and member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said, for 76 years, the people of Palestine had been subjected to the most inhumane brutal occupation.
He urged nationals and communities across the world to help restore dignity to Palestine regardless of their creed, colour and language, adding that “we the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Ghana pledge to continue the struggle and tear the final vestiges of colonial and apartheid.”
“We shall defeat the vestiges of apartheid occupation in Palestine and whatever it takes, Palestine will be free. Palestine will be established as an independent State with borders.” Mr Pratt Jr said.
