Health analyst urges Momo Montessori learners to become environmental ambassadors

Hohoe (V/R), Aug 1, GNA – Mr. Divine Abotsi, Hohoe Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, has called on learners of Momo Montessori Academy in Hohoe to become environmental ambassadors and take ownership of the environment.

He said they could do so by educating others about climate change, pollution and the importance of conservation and organise clean-up drives in their schools and neighbourhoods.

Mr. Abotsi was speaking during the seventh graduation ceremony of the school, said the learners could also lead recycling campaigns and reducing single-use plastics, start school gardens and planting trees that would provide shade and clean air for years to come.

He said as environmental ambassadors, they were not just carrying out duties but were leading a movement.

They were also the voices, reminding their friends to turn off the tap, picking up litter others leave behind and the minds coming up with creative solutions to everyday environmental problems.

“So today, I call on every student here to rise to the challenge. Start small, start today, say no to littering, plant a tree, speak up when you see waste and most importantly, believe in your power to create change,” the Municipal Health Analyst said.

He said the impact of human activities on the environment and the effects on public health had drawn the focus on plastic pollution which had become a global concern in the environment.

Mr. Abotsi said global adoption of the reduce the use of plastics, re-use the plastics and recycle the plastics as one of the strategies of protecting the environment from excessive pollution was timely.

The event was on the theme: “Making Hohoe Green and Clean: The Role of Environmental Ambassadors in our Schools.”

Mrs. Comfort Honu-Agbley, the Founder and Proprietress of the School, said the occasion was to honour the achievements of the graduating class.

“They have worked hard, learned much, and grown in ways that would carry them forward into the next exciting chapter of their lives,” she said.

She commended teachers and parents for their dedication and support in inspiring the learners in their academic journeys.

Mrs. Honu-Agbley tasked the graduation class to carry with themselves the values taught and learnt while making the school proud wherever they found themselves.
