Accra, Aug. 28,GNA-The Ghana International School (GIS) has launched its 70th Anniversary celebrations.
Established in September 1955, before Ghana’s independence, known as Gold Coast International School, GIS has evolved and established itself as Africa’s premier international school.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Mary Ashun, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said “the school’s 70th years anniversary represents more than institutional longevity but it’s a story of African educational ambition, international excellence and the power of visionary thinking.”
She said in the era of challenges, the school had demonstrated how African institutions could achieve world-class standards while maintaining cultural identity and local relevance.
“Founded in 1955, when Ghana was under colonial rule, the school demonstrated a remarkable foresight in international education as one of Africa’s earliest international educations to provide international education to students of all races and creed.”
Dr. Ashun said GIS was the first and the only double accredited school in Ghana by both the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools (NEASC).
She said the school officially received its accreditation status in December 2007, making it the first school in Ghana to be certified by the CIS.

“This milestone presents a compelling narrative that combines historical significance, current achievements and future promise.”
