Ho (V/R), Aug 23, GNA – The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), Volta Region, has cautioned its customers to remain vigilant against the growing trend of mobile money (MoMo) fraud targeting unsuspecting consumers.
The Regional Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, in a statement, said ECG had received increasing reports of fraudsters impersonating company officials and demanding payments through personal MoMo numbers under the guise of electricity bill settlements or service applications.
She stressed that ECG would not use personal MoMo accounts for transactions, reiterating that all legitimate payments should be made only through the official ECG PowerApp or at accredited ECG offices and authorized payment points.
“Customers should note that no staff member of ECG is permitted to use a private MoMo number to collect money for bills, reconnections, new service applications, or meter-related services,” Mrs. Tweneboah-Kodua emphasised.
The PRO further advised customers to exercise caution and immediately report any suspicious calls, text messages, or individuals requesting payments on behalf of ECG.
She noted that these fraudulent schemes not only exploited customers financially but also undermined public trust in the company’s operations.
She appealed to the public to support ECG’s efforts to combat fraud by spreading awareness within their communities.
“Do not fall prey to such tricks. Protect yourself, your household, and your neighbours. For assistance, always call ECG’s customer care lines or visit the nearest ECG office,” she advised.
