BHOBU Volta Chapter launches greening project to beautify alma mater

Kpando (V/R), Aug. 29, GNA – The Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU), Volta Chapter, has undertaken a campus greening and beautification project, to enhance the environment of their alma mater, the Bishop Herman College.

The initiative involved the planting of avenue trees and ornamental plants at strategic locations within the school compound.

Several Veitchia trees were carefully planted along the College’s main access roads and once matured, the trees would provide shade while creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors.

Mr Tamakloe Gavivina, the President of the Volta Chapter of BHOBU, said the project stemmed from the union’s enduring love for the college and its desire to support long-term development.

“Our vision is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our beloved alma mater. Beyond academic excellence, the school environment should reflect the dignity, tradition, and heritage of Bishop Herman College,” he stated.

He explained that the greening project was conceived during the union’s recent visit to the campus, where members resolved to contribute to its transformation.

The Union’s President appealed to the government for support to rehabilitate the school’s internal roads, which he described as “deplorable and in urgent need of upgrading.”

“Improved campus roads will enhance accessibility to classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and other facilities. We call on stakeholders to assist in this crucial need,” he added.

Mr Tamakloe urged school management to safeguard the newly planted trees from destruction, especially by animals, stressing that “unity of purpose” was required for the college’s progress.

Mr Francis Kungu, the Secretary of the Volta Chapter, disclosed that plans were underway to line both sides of the access road from the junction to the main college gate with avenue trees.

He commended BHOBU North America Chapter for leading the construction of the new college gate, describing it as a vital complement to the beautification and infrastructural works being undertaken.

Another member, Mr Kofi Mensah Sebuabe, expressed worry over negative comments about the school’s infrastructure, saying such criticisms failed to motivate old students to do more in restoring the college’s image.

During the exercise, the group interacted with students and toured classrooms, praising the leadership of the college for upholding Catholic values of discipline, moral uprightness, and academic excellence.

Mr Francis Kudolo, the Headmaster of Bishop Herman College thanked the Volta Chapter for their foresight and generosity, emphasising that the support of old boys remained indispensable to the growth and transformation of the institution.

He expressed deep gratitude to the BHOBU Volta Chapter and said the school looked forward to more collaborations that would secure the legacy of the Bishop Herman College for future generations.
