Ashaiman, July 21, GNA – Some residents of the Sraha Electoral Area in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality have appealed to the Municipal Assembly and the government to enhance security in the area by providing adequate streetlights in the community.

The residents said the situation has persisted over time, even though they have made several complaints to the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA).

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), one of the residents, Ms Mary Akos, said both past and present governments had not treated them well, as a number of the streetlights had not been functioning.

She said that the lack of streetlights in the community puts fear in her when returning home from town at night due to the intense darkness covering the area whenever night falls.

She said he sister was robbed when she was returning home from town one night and therefore pleaded with the assembly to come to their aid.

Madam Vida Twumasi, another resident, disclosed that because there were not enough streetlights, they sometimes had to take longer routes at night instead of the shorter ones, which were unlit.

Mr Jerry John Adjorlolo, the Assemblyman for the Sraha Electoral Area, responding to the concerns of the residents, admitted that the concerns were what pertained in the community.

He, however, said that he had provided some streetlights even though they were not enough for the entire area.

Mr Adjorlolo said that he was waiting for the administration of the new government to provide them with more streetlights to be fixed in the area.

He confirmed receiving several complaints from members of the community, indicating that thieves operated in the dark during the night to break into their homes.

The thieves also snatch their personal belongings when coming from town.

He appealed to the community members to exercise patience as we work towards getting a solution from the authorities, urging them to also support with the little they have by contributing to fixing some of the streetlights.
