Dusseldorf, July 23 (dpa/GNA) – A prisoner fled a court hearing in the western German city of Dusseldorf, on Monday.
The man is wanted for dangerous bodily harm, and aggravated gang theft.
An Austrian extradition request had already been submitted. The man’s hearing in court on Monday was to do with the extradition.
According to a court spokeswoman, he had been taken to a meeting room in a specially secured detention area, to speak to his lawyer.
On leaving the room, the prisoner managed to escape through a side door into the inner courtyard. There, he scaled a high security fence and escaped, the spokeswoman said. No-one was injured.
A helicopter and dogs were used to search for the man, a police spokesperson said. The riot police was also called in.
