Kadjebi (O/R), July 10, GNA -The Kadjebi Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Primary School in the Oti Region has urgently appealed for assistance from philanthropists and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to provide new toilet facilities for its students.

The school, which serves a vibrant community with a student population of 721, has faced significant challenges since its toilet collapsed four years ago.

Mr George Amati, the Headteacher of the school disclosed this information to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit by the Agency to the school.

He said the absence of appropriate sanitation had left the pupils in a precarious situation, causing distress and negatively impacting their overall well-being and educational experience.

Mr Amati, who led GNA to the collapsed toilet site, said the inadequate sanitation facilities could lead to serious health risks and hinder students’ ability to focus on their studies.

He said the current lack of toilets often forced some children to resort to insanitary practices, posing both health hazards and disrupting their learning environment.

“School authorities, along with parents, are calling on the kindness and generosity of individuals and organisations to help address this critical need,” saying the installation of proper toilet facilities are seen as a vital step in ensuring the health, dignity, and academic success of the children at the school,” he said.

Mr Amati said they were hopeful that with the support of philanthropic individuals and organisations, the schools could provide the children with a safe and respectful environment with sustainable access to basic sanitation facilities.

In addition to these pressing needs, Mr Amati appealed for the installation of streetlights around the school, saying the absence of lighting had led to numerous thefts, including valuables items such as television, which had been taken by robbers under the cover of darkness.

The Kadjebi E.P Primary School was established in 1936.

Mr Seth Seyram Deh, the Kadjebi District Director of Education, confirmed the dire situation regarding the school’s need for these sanitary facilities, during a conversation with the GNA.

He said the previous Kadjebi District Assembly administration was made aware of the issue, unfortunately, there was no action taken to address it.

Mr Deh expressed his intention to follow-up with the current district administration to seek a resolution to the matter, saying “Our children deserve better, and we will strive to bring this urgent issue to the forefront of discussions,” he added.
