Government orders refund of WASSCE practical fees to students

Accra, July 30, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed heads of second-cycle institutions to refund all monies collected for the 2025 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) practicals.

A statement signed by the Acting Director-General, Professor Mrs. Smile Dzisi, said the refund process must be properly documented and official receipts issued to acknowledge repayments.

“Heads of schools are to notify your Regional Director once refunds have been completed. Compliance with this directive will reduce the financial burden on students and parents and ensure that no learner is excluded from participation over lack of money,” it stated.

The GES warned that “failure to comply will be considered a serious breach of official instruction and may attract administrative sanctions.”

Regional Directors have been asked to disseminate the directive to all heads of schools through their respective Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Directors of Education.

The directive follows the release of GHC1584 million full funding to cover the cost of the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations, including all required materials and resources.
