Ho, July 9, GNA – The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) has handed over a Precision Quality Innovation Hub and two upgraded workshops to the Ho Technical University (HTU) in the Volta Region.

This forms part of the DTI’s efforts to strengthen Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and livelihoods landscape.

The Precision Quality Hub was refurbished and furnished with support from the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with the Design and Technology Institute.

The Hub features state-of-the-art tools and refurbished management science lecture rooms, hospitality, and tourism management workshops.

The DTI also retooled some selected workshops in hospitality, welding, and fashion at an estimated cost of GH¢1.5 million.

This is in line with the Precision Quality Centre of Excellence, established on the HTU campus to provide access to modern equipment, expert-led workshops, and real-world learning opportunities.

The Centre would support the rollout of the Precision Internship Programme, targeting youth in the Volta Region, and the benefits to be derived from the internship included valuable work experience, career path exploration, and competitive advantage in the market.

Ms. Constance Elizabeth Swaniker, Founder and President of DTI, said the Institute’s Precision Quality Centre of Excellence and Innovation Hub at HTU was more than just a facility.

She said it was a strategic hub designed to cultivate innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and equip the youth with the precise, industry-relevant skills needed to thrive.

“We are confident that this holistic ecosystem will be a powerful catalyst for empowering the next generation and significantly contributing to Ghana’s human capital development agenda,” she said.

The Founder said the partnership with the Ho Technical University marked a pivotal moment in the collective mission to redefine Technical and Vocational Education and Training and skills development in Ghana.

Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University, commended the Founder and President of DTI for the support for the University.

He remarked that the 2nd phase of the collaboration between HTU and DTI was a manifestation of excellence in industry-academia relationship, which was here to stay and would serve as motivation for all stakeholders.

The partnership with Ho Technical University is part of DTI’s collaborative strategy to engage with stakeholders in the public sector to achieve objectives under the “Transforming youth TVET livelihood under the Mastercard Young Africa Works (YAW) initiative.”

The initiative seeks to train and equip young people with the necessary soft skills for the world of work.

It also aims to enhance the competency-based learning of Technical Universities and improve the work skills of Mastercraft persons and SMEs to meet industry standards and address problems in their communities.

On April 29, 2021, DTI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ho Technical University to implement the Precision Quality curriculum and handed over an ultra-modern workshop equipped with state-of-the-art precision hand tools.

As part of the deepening collaboration between DTI and HTU, the university is being positioned as a strategic focal point to catalyse innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness among students, interns, and informal sector actors.

The university will anchor a holistic ecosystem that brings together technical training, research, data systems, and entrepreneurial support to prepare the next generation for a rapidly evolving world of work.
