Dompuase (W/R), July 8, GNA – Dompuase MA Basic School in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region, is in dire need of furniture and WASH facilities like urinals to help promote teaching and learning, the School authorities have said.
Madam Juliana Arthur, Headmistress of the School said the school lacked adequate furniture which on several occasions had compelled the pupils to sit on the floor during lesson hours.
“We are faced with challenges that need urgent attention. During critical times, teachers have to sacrifice their chairs. We are in dire need of help. The school also does not have a urinal,” she said.
Madam Arthur said this at the maiden edition of MJ Brain Battle Quiz Competition held at Dompuase MA Basic School to encourage the pupils to take their academic work seriously and help promote educational programmes in the municipality.
The inter class quiz competition which was organised by MJ Media Foundation saw the pupils exhibit their brilliance and intelligence in an epic event which involved the lower primary, upper primary and J.H.S in a contest.
Miss Juliet Enyonam Korkor, Executive Director, MJ Media Foundation, said little attention had been given to education in the rural communities she had visited especially the Amenfi East Municipality.

She said if such development continued to linger without any urgent remedies, achieving universal basic education where all children have access to and complete a full cycle of quality basic education, typically encompassing primary and lower secondary levels would be a mirage.
Miss Korkor said education had been the backbone of development across the globe, thus, urging the public to initiate and support educational programmes in deprived communities.
The contestants battled it out in Mathematics, reading, spelling and debate among others. At the end of the competition, Basic Two was adjudged the winner of the lower primary contest with 13 marks.
Basic Six won the upper primary contest with 45 marks and Basic seven won the JHS contest with 48 marks. The winners were awarded trophies, medals, customised souvenirs, stationery and certificates of participation among others.
The Akropong ‘A’ School Improvement Support Officer, Madam Florence Minnah commended the organisers of the programme and called on stakeholders in the municipality to support such programmes to shape the future of the pupils.
