Shine as beacons of hope in your communities – Apostle Nyamekye urges Christians

By Eric Appah Marfo

Accra, June 25, GNA – Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has urged Christians to rise as beacons of light and hope to effect transformation in their communities and the nation at large.

“We must continue to engage boldly and shine as beacons of light to bring hope to a frustrated and lost generation, and thereby cause positive change both in the church and the broader community,” he said.

Apostle Nyamekye said this on Wednesday at the 2025 National Delegates Conference of the GPCC in Accra, held on the theme: “Shining Like Stars in the World (Philippians 2:15).”

The conference brought together Christian leaders from various denominations across the country to strategise and be proactive in responding to the moral, spiritual, and social challenges confronting the nation.

He called for deeper unity among churches, and a renewed commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and raising godly leaders who sought the welfare of the people.

“As a Council representing millions of believers across this land, we cannot be indifferent to the challenges and opportunities that confront our nation. We must increase our godly influence and seek deeper unity among our churches,” he said

“The harvest is still plentiful and the labourers still few. We must go, we must teach and we must disciple – faithfully and fervently.”

The GPCC President also expressed gratitude to God for preserving Ghana’s peace and democratic gains, particularly in the aftermath of the 2024 General Election.

He acknowledged the Council’s active role in ensuring a peaceful electoral process through civic education, intercessory prayer, and partnerships with key institutions.

“We are also grateful to God that throughout the past year, there has been no serious negative report concerning our member churches. May our testimony continue to shine brighter in the years to come,” he added.

Apostle Nyamekye commended ministers across the regions, particularly those in Greater Accra, Volta, Central, Ashanti, and Bono East, who served as election observers.

He described their contribution as a vital show of faith in action and commitment to national development.

The Reverend Dr Francis Sey, Treasurer of the GPCC and General Overseer of the Foursquare Church, in a brief devotional on the conference theme, urged Christians to reflect God’s light by walking in righteousness and maintaining intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

“Being a star means uprightness, righteousness, and godliness,” he said, and that despite the busyness of ministry and life, believers must prioritise time with God, just as Moses and Peter did.

“Stars are not born – they go through a process. We need stars who will bring glory to God and prove to the world that upright living is possible through Christ,” he said.

Rev. Dr Sey encouraged participants to deepen their walk with Jesus, become true disciples, and raise others in the faith.

“We are called to be light and salt in a dark and decaying world,” he concluded.

The conference is expected to conclude with strategic discussions on the Council’s national initiatives, strengthening inter-church collaboration, and promoting biblical values in all spheres of society.
