Copenhagen, Sept 10. (dpa/GNA) – Marius Borg Høiby’s case is to be retried, after a court granted an appeal on Thursday by the son of Norway’s Queen Mette-Marit.
“The court of appeal will immediately begin preparations for the proceedings,” it said in a statement. “A date for the appeal hearing has not yet been set.”
Høiby’s defence lawyer, Petar Sekulic, told the NRK broadcaster that he had expected the decision and was satisfied.
Høiby was sentenced to four years in prison in June for two counts of rape, domestic violence and a range of further offences.
The 29-year-old had appealed against the conviction for the two rapes and the assault of a former girlfriend.
An appeal trial could take place next year. Høiby is currently on remand, staying at Skaugum, the Norwegian royal family’s estate, with an electronic ankle tag.
He has been granted leave on several occasions, following the death of his step-grandfather, Norwegian King Harald V, just under two weeks ago.
He was also permitted to attend the monarch’s funeral on Wednesday.
