Amsterdam, Jun. 9, (dpa/GNA) – Strike action will shut down virtually all Dutch rail traffic on Tuesday for the second time in a week, the national state-owned rail company NS has announced.
The VVMC rail union initially called a strike for South Holland, Zeeland and West Brabant in the south of the country, but NS decided to shut down virtually the entire network as it said maintaining services elsewhere would be impractical.
A similar stoppage occurred on Friday, when the union called a strike in the centre of the country.
International services will also be severely hit, including night trains. A shuttle service will operate between Amsterdam Central and Schiphol Airport.
NS said that certain services would run between Brussels and Amsterdam and between Cologne and Amsterdam.
Talks between the union and NS management over increased pay and improved working conditions have failed to yield results, according to the VVMC.
