Twifo Binponso (C/R), June 18, GNA – A severe rainstorm that started on Sunday to Monday (June 15-16), has left more than 200 residents homeless across four communities in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
The affected areas are Twifo Pimponso, Nsuakyire, Twifo 34, and Twifo Nuamakurom, all of which experienced significant flooding, leading to road blockages and the collapse of many homes within a few hours.
The aftermath of the storm has pushed many community members in desperate situations, with families seeking refuge in cocoa depots and church grounds.
The dire circumstances have prompted calls for government intervention, with residents urgently requesting for supplies such as cement, roofing sheets, food, and mattresses.

Mr. John Tey, a cocoa farmer, told the Ghana News Agency that the heavy rainfall had caused his three-bedroom home to collapse.
He is appealing to the government for assistance to help him recover from the disaster.
Similarly, Madam Benedicta Dogbey another farmer, suffered a total loss of her property.
She described her situation as “deeply mournful” and urgently requested that the government intervened by supporting them with roofing sheets and cement to rebuild her home.
Mr James Pra, the Twifo Atti Morkwa District NADMO coordinator, said he had reached out to the traditional authorities, urging them to discourage the sale of land near rivers to help mitigate the risk of future flooding.
He also advised residents to exercise caution during the current rainy season, predicting it could be more severe than last year’s, particularly in communities throughout the Central region.
