Dambai (O/R), June 27, GNA – A final year student of Nkwanta Senior High School (NKWANSEC) has lost his life due to renewed ethnic tensions between Akyodes and Challas in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The incident occurred on Friday, June 27, 2025, when stray bullets fired during a clash in the morning between the two rival groups hit the student, while he was on his way to the dormitory after finishing his mock exams ahead of the 2025 West Africa Examinations (WAEC).

He died on the spot according to a confirmation from Mr. Jonathan Korsina, Municipal Education Director of Nkwanta South, who failed to disclose identity of the victim.

Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that, the deceased student is reportedly from Saboba in the Northern Region and was schooling at NKWANSEC.

The clash between rival groups erupted when a group attempted to perform libation rites as part of preparations to usher in the newly harvested yams, which was resisted by a rival faction.
