Takoradi,  June 9, GNA – The Bibiani Anhwaiso Bekwai Municipal NCCE has engaged students of Chirano Senior High school on good environmental practices and proper plastic waste management.

The education was to empower the students of Chirano to understand the need to end plastic pollution in the country.

Mr. Fredrick Osei Agyeman,  a resource person, emphasized that plastic pollution posed severe threat to the ecosystem.

“This is because, toxic chemicals from plastics could cause health issues, including cancer and hormonal disruptions.

Additionally, more plastic production contributed to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions.”

He noted that the fight against  plastic pollution would require an end to single-used plastics  while improving waste management, and promoting sustainable alternatives.

The government, industries, and individuals must collaborate to enforce policies, innovate eco-friendly materials, and raise awareness to ensure a cleaner environment, protect biodiversity, and secure a healthier future for generations to come.

He encouraged the students to use silver spoons instead of plastic spoons, which are disposed carelessly and were costly to remove from the environment.

He added that the little money the government released could instead be used to provide facilities for the school like libraries and computer and science laboratory instead of being spent on plastic waste management.
