Gomoa Afransi (C/R), May 1, GNA- Mr Hackman Kobena Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa Central, has cut the sod for construction works to commence on the 24-Hour model market project at Gomoa Afransi.
The much-touted project of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government would be completed in three years.
Some facilities included the project are a fire service station, police post, banking hall, and Kindergarten.
Addressing the chiefs and people, and Gomoa Central Assembly staff, Mr Aidoo said breaking grounds for the project was an indication of the commitment of President John Mahama to fulfil his promises during the 2024 electioneering campaign.
He said the completion of the market in the area boost trading activities, and women would be able to enhance their financial status in Gomoa Central and beyond.
The DCE expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the NDC Government for the money available to finance the construction of an ultra-modern market for the chiefs and people of the district.
He said the project would also assist the Assembly to improve its revenue generation to help undertake various projects to raise the living standards of the people.
The DCE reiterated calls on the chiefs, opinion leaders and other stakeholders in the district to rally behind the market project, adding that the contractor had been asked to create local content to recruit artisans, especially the youth from the locality to reduce the unemployment rate.
Mr Aidoo expressed disappointment about the numerous land litigations in the district, saying that due to multiple sale of lands to developers, some of them had taken undue advantage to develop lands earmarked for road construction in the various communities.
He cautioned them to desist from such acts.
Mr Aidoo announced that his office had received many reported cases of land litigation for amicable resolution.
Also, the Assembly had taken upon itself to establish boundaries to help reduce land disputes.
On road projects, the DCE lauded President Mahama’s government for the construction of the Apam-Junction to Gomoa Afransi stretch to the district capital, adding that another construction works had begun from Ajumako–Enyan-Essiam to Agona Swedru to facilitate transportation of goods and services to boost economic activities.
Mr Aidoo appealed to the chiefs, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to collectively support the monthly national sanitation exercise to ease environmental pollution and its associated diseases.
Mr Hope Clement, the CEO of Multi-Lead Limited, the contractor working on the market project, assured the Assembly and the chiefs that the three year-contract would be executed without any hindrance and urged them to rally support for the completion of the project.
He said the Assembly had given him instruction per the contract directive to recruit artisans and labourers from the district and his company would comply.
Nana Odum Ananfo IV, chief of Gomoa Akrong No. 2 and Amankrahene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, who deputised for Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, the Omanhene, praised the government for the commencement of the project.
