Kwaman (C/R), June 20, GNA – The Chiefs, Assemblyman and people of Agona Kwaman have organised two days of communal labour to clear weeds along the Bobikuma/Kwaman and Kwaman/Agona Nyakrom highway.
They also desilted chocked gutters and swept streets and many other public places to ensure clean environment.
Speaking to the GNA after the exercise, Nana Amoah Sekyi II, Benkumhene of Agona Kwaman, said the Bobikuma/Kwaman highway had become so bushy for many years, posing danger to vehicular and human movement on the stretch.
The Benkumhene disclosed that the exercise was meant to clear filth but also formed part of the efforts to rekindle communal spirits among the youth who had become apathetic towards communal labour.
He appealed to the youth to always get involved in communal labour, being the hall mark of their forefathers.
Nana Amoah Sekyi, on behalf of Nana Opaaku Yeboah VI, Chief of Agona Kwaman, Queen mothers, Heads of family and linguists, said since the road was tarred in 2014, the chiefs and people had been organising communal labour to clear weeds along the road.
The Benkumhene used the occasion to advice the youth against using hard drugs and engaging in other social vices, which could affect their future.
He urged the youth to pursue further education and also acquire vocational and technical skills to enhance their future growth.
Mr Ebenezer Bimpong, the Presiding Member of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, said one of the cardinal principles of President Mahama’s government was to tackle sanitation, hence the communal labour.
According to Mr Bimpong, who is also the Assemblyman for Agona Kwaman, the decision to mobilise the chiefs and entire youth of Kwaman to undertake the exercise, was to help reduce the risk of drivers and pedestrians, who use the road.
The Presiding Member advised his colleagues to organise communal labour in their various electoral areas to enhance environmental cleanliness and safety.
