Koforidua, (Ahafo), June 12, GNA – Mr Suleyman Adama, the Acting Principal of the Islamic Mission Technical Institute at Koforidua in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region has appealed for support to improve infrastructure development at the Institute.
He said a downpour which hit the area caused extensive destruction to the institute’s pavilion, which served as classroom, workshop, and assembly hall and had since disrupted academic activities.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Koforidua, near Duayaw-Nkwanta, Mr Adama said the destruction of the structure had significantly affected academic and practical studies.
He said the pavilion accommodated 150 students and enumerated challenges including limited classroom space and financial constraints facing the institute, saying “we are unable to construct permanent buildings due to lack of funds”.
“We therefore need urgent assistance”, he stated and appealed to wealthy people and organisations and the government to come to their aid, saying “in fact, some traditional leaders and representatives from the Islamic Mission Secretariat had come here to assess the level of damage”.
Mr Adama said the Institute has also contacted the Tano North Municipal Assembly, however it was yet to receive feedback from the assembly, saying the institute also required classrooms blocks, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, ICT laboratory and workshops.
Established in 2022, he said the Institute had 210 students and offered vocational and technical training in Electrical Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology, Automobile Engineering Technology and Fashion Design Technology.
