Takoradi, June 6, GNA – Madam Maribel Okine, the Western Regional Director for Gender, says menstruation is a natural and universal experience among women and girls and that menstrual hygiene is a fundamental aspect of reproductive rights.

She called on girls to manage themselves effectively during their menstrual periods to ensure personal safety and health.

Madam Okine was speaking at an event organised by the Human Rights and Development Services (HURDS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service – Prestea Huni Valley, to commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day with students from basic schools in the community.

The participating schools included: Methodist Primary School, Islamic Basic School, Catholic Junior High School, Catholic Primary School and M/A Junior High School.

The event was made possible with funding support from Mohammed Brothers Limited in Tarkwa.

The programme recorded active participation from key stakeholders, including the Assemblyman for the area, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for the circuit, the Girl Child Coordinator, and a representative from Mohammed Brothers Limited.

Ms. Eugenia Dery, Programme Manager of HURDS, urged them to stay focused on their education and to aspire to achieve their goals.

They are to promptly report any instance of sexual violence to their teachers or parents to ensure timely support and intervention.

The programme was used to create awareness and foster an environment of support, education, and empowerment for adolescent girls in the community.
