Hohoe (V/R), June 7, GNA – Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Hohoe Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) and Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Friday joined the Hohoe Muslim community to mark the 2025 Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Eid al-Adha, also known as “Festival of the Sacrifice” is considered the holier of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide annually. It is described as the willingness of lbrahim to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, as a sign of faith and obedience to God’s command.
Alhaji Mohammed Abdul Hamidu, the Hohoe Municipal Deputy Chief Imam, led the prayers and admonished the Muslim community in the Municipality to continue to give alms and show love to all irrespective of their religious background.
A ram was slaughtered to signify the importance of the celebration.
Mr Tsekpo on the other hand, said the Zongo Community was very dear to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and that the Party was committed to meeting the developmental needs of the community members.
He assured the youth of employment opportunities and capacity building programmes earmarked for them, saying some ambassadorial posts had been offered to some youth within the community.
Mr Tsekpo said others had also been given scholarship opportunities at various levels of academic pursuit.
He said as part of plans to boost revenue generation and benefit from the 24-Hour Economy policy, a market would be built at Hohoe Zongo, which is expected to be operating day and night.
Mr Tsekpo said that finances were ready to start the Islamic Senior High, at Hohoe Zongo to enhance learning and teaching.
Mr Kumi on his part, emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence for development to thrive and called on the leadership of the community to ensure that peace reigned.
He said there was the need for the Zongo community members to play their part by contributing their quota such as payment of property rates and business operating permits.
The MP and the MCE made donations to support the celebration.
Sarki Tajudeen Mairiga, Zongo Chief of Hohoe on behalf of the Zongo community, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture from the donors.
He said there were issues including security that the community would soon engage the appropriate authorities to tackle.
