Government releases GH₵8.9 million feeding grant to Special Schools

Accra, June 27, GNA- The government has released GH₵8.9 million as feeding grants to Special Schools across the country.

Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi, the Deputy Director General, Ghana Education Service (GES) said the intervention reaffirmed government commitment to inclusive education in ensuring that no leaner, regardless of ability or circumstance, was left behind.

Prof. Dzisi said this on behalf of GES Director General, Prof. Ernest K. Davis at the 2024 WASSCE Distinction Awards Ceremony held in Accra by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Every year, WAEC sets out a day to honour candidates who distinguish themselves in WASSCE.

Prof. Dzisi said additionally, Capitation Grant, a vital support mechanism for the smooth running of basic schools, has also been released.

The Don said: “This ensures that schools can meet essential operational needs and continue delivering teaching and learning without disruption.

“These are not mere administrative updates; they are tangible steps toward strengthening the very foundation of our education system.

“They reflect our resolve to build a Ghana where every child has the opportunity not only to be educated but to excel.”

Prof. Dzisi commended teachers, parents and candidates and policy makers for carrying forward the spirit of excellence which was being celebrated.

“Let us recommit ourselves to building an education system anchored in equity, accountability and the pursuit of excellence,” she said.

Prof. Dzisi asked the awardees to see their achievements as a springboard for greater accomplishment, adding, “the country is watching, and we believe in your potential to lead, to innovate and to uplift.”

She said the award ceremony reaffirmed what was possible when commitment met with opportunity, adding when talent was nurtured, guided and given space they thrive immensely.

Prof. Dzisi commended the WAEC for instituting the excellence award, saying the event was a powerful testimony of the value of hardwork, perseverance and purpose.

She challenged students to dream bigger, aim higher, and serve their communities and country with excellence and honour.

In all six students, include a female, who distinguished themselves were give laptops and cash prizes.

David Nii Commey Ankrah, formerly of New Hope College, was adjudged the overall best candidate in Ghana for 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates. He was also adjudged the best candidate for the General Science Programme (WASSCE 2024).

Henschel Tabi Frempong -Manso formerly of Kade Senior Technical School, was adjudged as the second overall best student while Debrah Benedict Ofori, formerly of Presbyterian Boys Senior High School was also adjudged the third best overall student.

Ameera Issifu formerly of Legacy Girls College, was adjudged the best student in the General Arts Programme while Uriel Yeboah Afreh, formerly of Ghana Christian International High School was adjudged the best candidate in the 2024 WASSCE Business programme.

Virtues Akye Mensah, formerly of St Mary’s Boys’ Senior High School was adjudged the best candidate in the Virtual Arts Programme.
