Tema, June 25, GNA – Mr Charles Mawusi, a Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Presidential Candidate, has said that he would initiate the formulation of a welfare policy through strategic planning.
Mr Mawusi, who is contesting the incumbent Mr Albert Dwumfour, said the GJA must have a well-defined policy on welfare to take care of the peculiar needs of its members, as, according to him, currently there is not such a policy to help members.
He said to fund such a welfare policy, he would lead the GJA to embark on some investment ventures, including farms, to generate the needed funding, adding that operating some form of a savings and loans scheme to provide members with soft loans with lower interest rates would also be initiated.
He also said he would strengthen the financial management system of the association to ensure credibility and accountability, which would serve as a bedrock to attract partnerships and funding for the association.
According to him, they would restore integrity and discipline in the association through visionary and ethical leadership.
He further said that under his administration, when voted for, the national executives would work hard to resolve the fundamental issues lingering around the land at the Press Centre with relevant authorities and move to develop it into a multi-purpose facility.
Mr Mawusi further gave the assurance that he was committed to focusing on both the internal capacity of the GJA’s secretariat and the professional growth of members, as he has the ability to mobilise for such training.
He bemoaned the capacity gap at the secretariat, which he described as widening, stressing that “there is a lot of skills gaps that need to be addressed.”
Giving a brief about himself, he stated that he has over 20 years of experience in journalism, development, and strategic communication.
