Ghana to showcase ICT achievements in World Expo in Japan

Accra, June 14, GNA- Ghana will host an exhibition of cutting-edge projects and services, showcasing its ICT achievements to a global audience at this year’s World Expo to be held in Osaka, Japan.

The Expo will bring together business leaders in the ICT business to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities in the sector.

There will also be business-to-business sessions to connect Ghanaian institutions with their Japanese counterparts, fostering dialogue and paving the way for strategic alliances.

Mr Samuel George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, said this in Accra at a press briefing ahead of this year’s Expo in Japan on the theme “Designing Future Societies for Our Lives”.

The theme offers a transformative platform to showcase Ghana’s vibrant ICT sector and unlock its immense potential to the world.

The Expo started running on April 13 and is expected to end on October 13, 2025, in Osaka, Japan.

Ghana will participate in the Expo on September 11, 2025, to celebrate the nation’s digital progress.

“The Osaka Expo 2025 presents a unique opportunity for Ghana’s ICT sector to shine on the global stage.

“Our participation will highlight innovative projects and services by Ghanaian private sector organisations, from fintech and e-governance to digital health and smart solutions,” he said.

These advancements, he stressed, were driving Ghana’s digital transformation, exploring potential Japanese partners, creating jobs and improving lives.

Mr George said the Ministry was proud to collaborate with private sector ICT organisations in Ghana, a cornerstone of the country’s strategy to foster growth and innovation.

“By partnering with dynamic ICT firms in the country, we aim to open doors for meaningful partnerships, attract investments, and build bridges with Japanese businesses,” he said.

The Minister said the collaboration was part of the government’s broader vision to position Ghana as a hub for ICT excellence in Africa and create opportunities for private sector businesses to thrive.

He said the government was committed to deepening collaboration with the Japanese government and that measures were in place to explore a memorandum of understanding with Japanese institutions, focusing on digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, capacity building, and technology transfer.

“We look forward to leveraging Japan’s expertise to strengthen our ICT ecosystem, from expanding broadband access to training our youth in emerging technologies like AI and coding,” he said.

A speech read on behalf of Mr Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, commended the government for its strong leadership in working hard to realise the 24-hour economy.

He said to maximise productivity and create jobs, modernising public and private sector operations, communication, digital technology, and innovation were indispensable to achieve that goal.

Mr Yoshimoto acknowledged that the development of Ghana’s ICT technology required strong investment and business collaboration.

“Japan is open for business, and we welcome increased collaboration between Ghana and the Japanese partners in this sector,” he said.
