Badukrom community gets new water facility

Badukrom (W/R), June 12, GNA – Gold Fields Ghana Foundation (GFGF) has constructed a 40,000-liter water facility at a total cost of GH¢ 285,000 for residents of Badukrom in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

Handing over the facility to the community, Mr Abdel Razak Yakubu, the Executive Secretary of GFGF, explained that about five years ago, the same community had challenges with the pump rate of a facility the Foundation had earlier constructed for them.

He said the community claimed the pumps took two to three hours to fill the tanks, incurred high costs, but after they studied the problem, it became necessary to construct a new one.

Mr Yakubu said they would still investigate the problem further, and work on the old facility because the community needed more than one facility.

“The project is under the defect liability period, so we have asked the community to use it. If they identify any problem, they should report it to us to enable the contractor to address them,” he added.

Mr Yakubu said, “Not too long ago, the Foundation constructed a similar project for Fiaseman Senior High School. We have more projects lined up for Mile 10, Huniso, and Huni-Valley communities, and the Akoon project is ongoing.”

He thanked the leadership of Badukrom community for promising to take good care of the project to ensure that the Foundation would not return in five years to implement an entirely new one.

The executive secretary said, “The New Atuabo community is a shining example, having built four additional water facilities after the Foundation provided three, and even connecting local basic schools to the water system for free.”

Mr Micheal Kojo Johnson, the Municipal Water and Sanitation officer, emphasized that the water would not be free because they needed to generate funds for the maintenance of the facility.

The chief and elders of Badukrom thanked the GFGF, pledged to take good care of the facility, ensure proper maintenance, and expressed hope to do more projects to benefit the community.
