Adalazo (W/R), June 12, GNA – Some rural communities in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region have been cut off Ghana’s digitalisation agenda due to no mobile telecommunications network in those areas.

Adalazo, Asuboi and surrounding areas are facing mobile network and internet connectivity challenges, a situation affecting residents’ ability to easily transacts business online, access emergency services, and reach out to family and friends over the phone among other things.

Some of the residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that they walk from their various homes to an identified spot under an electricity pole before accessing mobile network.

The situation, they said, was having a negative impact on their lives, saying; “In an era of digital transformation, we feel left out and isolated from the world.”

Mr Elijah Adu, a resident of Adalazo, expressed worry over the lack of mobile network services in the area, and said the issue was affecting work, education, health, and other aspects of their lives.

He said: “They say we are in a digital world but those of us here do not have the means to get connected, because the network challenge is very serious.

We must walk and stand under an electricity pole before getting reception to make calls or even receive messages, so in times of an emergency, you can imagine how we suffer.”

He, therefore, called on the government and other stakeholders in the telecommunications sector to come to their aid and provide mobile network services for them.

Madam Adwoa Asaah, another resident, shared similar sentiments, and said even the identified spot for reception was always not reliable.

She also appealed to authorities to respond to their cries and provide permanent solution the issue to help make life easier for them.
