Ho (V/R), May 25, GNA– A 35-year-old woman, Selina Kuma Kle, tragically lost her life after being struck by lightning during a rainstorm at SDA Down, a suburb of Ho.
According to eyewitnesses, Selina—well known in the community as a kenkey seller at Sokode station—had visited a nearby kiosk to stake a lotto, when the fatal lightning struck, killing her instantly.
The incident had left the local community in shock, reigniting fears and long-held superstitions surrounding lightning strikes.
In accordance with tradition, elders from Ho Bankoe conducted customary rites at the scene before her body was removed.
The incident has sparked widespread discussions among residents.
While some attribute the tragedy to spiritual causes, others are advocating for increased public education on lightning safety, especially during the rainy season.
This marks the second such incident in recent years.
On May 30, 2022, a young coconut seller was also killed by lightning while seeking shelter under a mango tree near the ECG office.
Her body, too, remained untouched for hours until traditional rituals were performed.
Local leaders have urged residents to take precautions during storms, including avoiding open spaces and tall objects, and seeking immediate shelter indoors to reduce the risk of lightning-related tragedies.
