Accra, May 16, GNA – The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) has officially inaugurated its new national executives, in Accra, led by Ms Yvonne Donkor, the President.
The members of the Executive will be in office for the next two years, after securing their positions in a keenly contested elections on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Ms Donkor, in her inaugural speech, acknowledged TOUGHA’s reputation in driving domestic tourism and uniting tour operators across the country.
She said the dedication and hard work of the members had kept the Union alive and thriving through challenging times.
“The journey to this moment has not always been smooth sailing. We have weathered storms, faced challenges that tested our resilience and navigated a landscape that constantly evolves, but through it all, the spirit of TOUGHA has endured, a testament to the unwavering commitment of each and every one of you,” Ms Donkor said.
She said TOUGHA had become a respected voice in the tourism industry, especially known for its role in promoting domestic tourism and advocating best practices in travel and hospitality.
The new leadership would build on this legacy while embracing modern tools and partnerships to grow the sector, Ms Donkor said.
“As we look ahead, my vision is clear: to forge ahead in absolute unity. The strength of TOUGHA lies in our collective voice, in our shared purpose,” Ms Donkor said.
She said the inauguration did not mark just a new chapter, but a call to forge ahead in absolute unity with a collective voice and shared purpose.
“We reaffirm our collective strength to stand together, support one another, share knowledge and collaborate on innovative solutions that will propel our industry to new heights.”
She pledged to lead with intention and responsiveness, dynamism and progressiveness, ensuring that members’ voices were not just heard but their concerns were addressed.
“We will be proactive, not reactive. We will embrace innovation, explore new technologies and champion sustainable tourism practices that benefit our Union, businesses and nation,” she said.
Ms Donkor called for active participation, creative energies and unwavering dedication of every single member.
“Let us engage in open dialogue, challenge ourselves to think differently, and work together to unlock the immense potential that lies within Ghana’s tourism sector.”
She paid tribute to the Union’s past leadership for their tireless efforts, unwavering advocacy, and progressive initiatives to not only elevate TOUGHA but make it the envy of many within the broader tourism sector.
“The future of TOUGHA is bright, filled with opportunities. Together, with a renewed sense of purpose and an unshakeable spirit of unity, we will not only overcome any challenges that come our way, but we will also redefine what it means to experience the warmth and wonder of Ghana.”
Apostle Emmanuel Mensah is the Vice President, Madam Gifty Esinam Barawusu, General Secretary, Madam Sylvia Anim, Treasurer, Mr Charles Odoi, Financial Secretary, Mr Nawaru Mohammed Fuseini and Mr Felix Minta, members.
