Thirteen Wassa Japa suspects remanded, proceedings move to Sekondi High Court

Tarkwa (W/R), May 22, GNA-Thirteen suspects who were arrested at Wassa Japa in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality for allegedly engaging in illegal mining have appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court.  

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Lartey, who led prosecution requested to withdraw the case to the Sekondi High Court.  

Mrs Hathia Ama Manu, the presiding judge, has therefore, remanded the suspects into police custody to re-appear before the Court on Tuesday May 27, 2025, as the police sought to transfer the case. 

On May 19, 2025, the Western Central Regional Police Command conducted an operation which led to the arrest of the suspects.  

The suspects are Nana Ampadu, Stephen Tetteh, Yaw Dalame, Samuel Amoah, Kwame Oppong, Francis Oduom, Owusu Asare, Atta Kwame, Apiyanga Emmanuel, Kojo Montanakito, Maxwell Owusu, Obofo Vincent and Soogal Fataw.  

Six motorbikes were retrieved from the site, while 120 changfang machines were disabled.
