Techimantia, (Ahafo), May 29, GNA-Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has urged girls to be disciplined and abstain from pre-marital sex and concentrate on their education.
He said discipline remained the key to unlocking their potential and a better future for themselves and their families, urging them to read their books.
Mr Frimpong gave the advice when speaking at a forum organized by the Girl Child Unit of the Tano South Municipal Directorate of Education to mark this year’s celebration of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, held at Techimantia in the Municipality, attended by girls drawn from the basic schools in the area.
He spoke about the importance of menstrual hygiene, which he added played a critical role in improving the health and school attendance rate of girls.
Mr Frimpong presented quantities of sanitary pads to be distributed among the girls, explaining that the pads were in line with the implementation of the government’s ‘Free Sanitary Pad Initiative’.
He said the government remained committed to supporting girl-child education and ensuring that no girl was left behind in accessing formal education partly due to lack of menstrual hygiene products.
Mr Frimpong commended the Girl Child Education Unit for the forum and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to support that initiative and to promote the well-being and education of girls in the municipality.
Miss Agnes Amihere, the Tano South Municipal Director of Education, advised the girls to remain focused and strive to achieve high academic laurels, urging them to avoid deviant behaviours that could hinder their progress.
