Bolgatanga, Oct. 16, GNA -The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) is to showcase investment opportunities in the Upper East Region and other parts of the country at the upcoming Invest Ghana Summit in Accra in November.
The initiative forms part of the Authority’s Investment Opportunity Mapping Project, which seeks to identify, document and package investment opportunities across all 16 regions to attract local and international investors.
Madam Zainabu Issah, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GIPA, announced this in an interview with journalists in Bolgatanga during a regional investment roadshow, held to engage regional officials, planning officers and businesses on the investment potential of the Upper East Region.
The programme was held under the theme: “Driving Local Investments – Unlocking Regional Potential; Mapping Opportunities and Mobilizing Growth in the Upper East Region.”
The PRO said the information gathered from the engagements would be compiled into a document for presentation to the investment community at the summit scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026.
“Any investment project that is happening within the regions, we are calling on the regional planning officers, businesses and young entrepreneurs with interesting projects to speak to us at GIPA,” she said.
Madam Issah said the roadshow was intended to help the Authority to better understand investment opportunities and challenges on the ground, adding that the Northern Regions had considerable potentials that remained largely untapped.
“I do not think the Northern Regions are deprived. I think they are among the undiscovered regions that people are yet to understand the potentials they have to offer,” she said.
She cited rice production, gold deposits and tourism as some of the opportunities in the Upper East Region that could attract investment if properly developed and marketed.
Madam Issah said a visit to the Tamana rice-producing company revealed significant production potential, but noted that access to markets and distribution remained major challenges.
She said the GIPA was interested in supporting local businesses and not only foreign investors, and that the regional engagements would enable the Authority to identify challenges and connect businesses with relevant government agencies.
“At GIPA, we have an Investor Aftercare and Investors’ Grievance Division. What this division does is to ensure that whatever issue an agency or organisation is having, they sit as middlemen between the organisation and the relevant government agency to ensure that these issues are resolved,” she said.
Madam Issah said concerns raised by local farmers and businesses over difficulties in marketing agricultural produce, including maize and rice, would be referred to the appropriate agencies for attention.
She cited the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Buffer Stock Company among the institutions that could be engaged to explore solutions to market access and distribution challenges.
She said the objective was to ensure that farmers and businesses secured appropriate distribution networks and obtained value for their investments.
Madam Issah said the GIPA would continue to collaborate with Regional Coordinating Councils and other stakeholders to identify and package investment opportunities for presentation to the international community.
She commended Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister for expressing interest in collaborating with the Authority to develop a programme that would promote the region’s investment potential.
The Upper East roadshow forms part of the GIPA’s tour of the five northern regions, which began in Tamale and continued through the North East Region.
The Authority is expected to proceed to the Upper West and Savannah regions to complete the first phase of the regional investment roadshow.
Madam Issah said the engagements would help position the regions as attractive destinations for investment by improving the visibility of their economic potential and address challenges that confronted local businesses.
