Accra, May 28, GNA-Surf Ghana in collaboration with Element Skateboards, an American-based company has donated ten modern skateboards to Wheels Ghana, the first and only organized skate club in Ho.

The kind gesture was part of efforts by the two organisations to collaborate with local skaters to develop and strengthen the sport through its nationwide “Race to Skate” initiative.

The team, during the three-day visit took new riders through hands-on coaching, while more experienced skaters were challenged to learn new techniques and stunts.

They also provided training for the skaters, and conducted a site survey at the Youth Park, a proposed location for a new skatepark in the Volta Regional Capital.

The Project Lead for Surf Ghana, Miss Harmonie Bataka, Project Lead for Surf Ghana said skating aside playing its role as a sport also served as a platform for unity and creativity.

“Seeing the passion in Ho’s youth reaffirms our mission to expand access to skate culture across Ghana.” she added.

She showered praises on the leadership of Ghana Wheels for bringing together a young team in the quest to make skating a global sport.

“Our regional correspondent, Tilda Acorlor, will continue to monitor the impact of the Race to Skate initiative on beginners in Ho as it expands into other areas of the region,” She said.

Mr. Xorse Senanu, President of Wheels Ghana  expressed his excitement about the visit, saying, “This experience has inspired our riders and equipped us with equipment we couldn’t afford otherwise,”.

According to him, the “Race to Skate” initiative is a game changer that would help unearth more talents.

The visit concluded with an evening knowledge-sharing session, where both teams brainstormed strategies to sustain growth in the local skate community.
