Abuakwa (Ash), May 14, GNA – The Abuakwa Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality has granted bail to seven individuals accused of possessing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Each of the accused was granted bail in the sum of GHC 70,000, with two sureties.
The suspects are Halidu Hadara alias “Gaucho”, 22, student, Baaba Fuseini, 21, butcher, Abdul Yahaya alias “Baba Fati”, 24, delivery agent, Mohammed Seidu, 22, labourer, Kelvin Ofori alias “Zoolin”, 25, a trader, Muntala Mubashir, 26, driver, Mohammed Ibrahim alias “Morgan”, 30, a shoemaker
Their pleas were not taken, and the case was adjourned to June 3, 2025, for further proceedings.
Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi, prosecuting informed the court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau that the complainants in the case are officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
According to the prosecution, on April 29, 2025, at approximately 16:10 hours, officers on routine patrol operations arrested the suspects at a known drug peddling location near Yawila-Zongo, a suburb of Kumasi.
A search conducted at the scene led to the discovery of two partially smoked wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 25 blisters of ‘timaking’ tablets, and 345 milligrams of unregistered substances suspected to be narcotics.
Chief Inspector Kwabi stated that the seized substances have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for scientific analysis and confirmation.
During preliminary investigations, all suspects denied ownership of the substances, although a rubber sachet containing the dried leaves was reportedly retrieved from suspect Kelvin Ofori.
They were subsequently charged and brought before the court, pending the results of the forensic examination and continuation of investigations.
