Keta (VR), May 21, GNA- Mr Matthias Tulasi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Literacy Ambassadors, Ghana, in the Volta Region, has urged parents to provide better literacy learning environment for children to improve and sharpen their reading skills for brighter feature.
He said a world where knowledge was power, books were the key that unlocked endless possibilities, and the spirit of reading and learning should be inculcated in the children at the tender age.
Mr Tulasi, who was the Guest Speaker, during book donation ceremony held by Ceciyaa Foundation in collaboration with the National Readers Association, at Keta AME Zion school, said the gift of literacy was a treasure that had the potentials to change lives and shape a brighter future for all.
“As an educator, researcher and CEO of Literacy Ambassadors, Ghana, l have witnessed firsthand, profound difference that access to books can make in the lives of the young minds,” he said.
He explained that the donations of the books were not just a giveaway pages and words, but planting of seeds of curiosity, imagination, and empathy, which involved investing in the next generation of leaders, thinkers and real change-makers who would carry the torch of knowledge forward.
He said that by sharing the gift of literacy, one would sow the seed of unity, understanding, and empowerment and urged the public to support initiatives that would champion the promote education and to be ambassadors of hope in a world that often feels divided.
“Let us remember that the act of giving is not just about material possessions, it is about nurturing the human spirit and building a more compassionate society.”
Mr Tulasi appealed to parents to build the change they want in children by embracing the power of books and spreading the joy of reading far and wide, adding that,” In the word of the late Nelson Mandela, education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world.
“Let us wield this weapon with compassion, determination, and a commitment to create a world where every person has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”
He said every child who cannot read is a reminder that the work towards a more literate environment is far from over and thanked the Ceciyaa Foundation and National Reader Association for the kind gesture that would help transform and reshape the learning process for the learners.
He urged the donors and other benevolent associations, philanthropists, and educators to extend their support to other districts beyond Keta and Anloga for all students to have equal benefit to become better future leaders for the nation.
Mr Ferdinand Amuzu, the Public Relations Officer, Ghana Education Service, Keta, who also spoke on behalf of the donors, told the GNA that the gesture was to improve on reading abilities and skills of the learners in the districts.
He said that over 31 schools from Anloga and Keta municipalities have benefited from over 10,000 book donations, which would cater for juveniles, pre-adults, and adults in different areas of subjects to improve the progress of teaching and learning in the areas.
He urged beneficiary schools to protect and use the books for the rightful purposes and appealed to other schools who are yet to benefit from the support to remain calm for their turn in the subsequent distributions to better education in the schools.
Some teachers and students who received the books on behalf of the various schools expressed excitement over the donation and pledged that the books would be used well to achieve the targeted goals and objectives.
