Accra, May 13, GNA – Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the Executive Director of Tiger Eye PI, says his fight against Kennedy Agyapong has not been about the money, but rather a fight for truth and justice.
In a statement issued by Tiger Eye PI, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, Aremeyaw Anas said: “I am happy that not a single allegation was proven against me in court when Kennedy Agyapong was given full opportunity to substantiate.”
In March 2025, the investigative journalist secured a legal victory against Kennedy Agyapong, after a jury in the Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey found the former Assin Central MP liable for defamation.
The court awarded Anas a multi-million-dollar settlement for defamation.
It said an American jury found Kennedy Agyapong guilty of malicious defamation.
Consequent to the finding by the jury, an amount of $18million was awarded in his favour against Mr Agyapong.
The statement said following the award, Mr Agyapong filed a motion for remittitur, asking the judge to reduce the amount awarded against him.
“Thus, inherent in his motion, he admitted to having maliciously defamed me,” the statement said.
“Today, the trial judge granted Kennedy Agyapong’s motion for remittitur and reduced the initial award to $500.”
That meant that, while the judge held that Mr Agyapong had defamed him, in his reasoning, the award by the jury was excessive, it said.
“I will continue in my relentless fight against corruption – and in doing that, continue to name, shame, and jail,” the statement added.
